On Monday 30 June 2008, which was yesterday was the day these ang mors called the Australians came to visit our school as part of their cultural international programme. I wasn’t that nervous when we, the Lower 6 Science students were amongst the selected batch to greet them. Last year was from Bali, this year we got beautiful girls from Australia ^^.
It was a thrilling experience, and I can’t help but admire their beauty and best of all their uniform. It was shocking to learn they’re around 1 to 2 years younger than us! ~.~ So its really true, Asians look younger. We Malaysians are always known for our direct attitudes and straight to the point. Expressionless greetings and bulstling queue up lines. Somehow we can put it this way, we’re so disciplined to the point we forgot our own manners to greet people. They were the friendly ones. They shared most of their feelings, views and everything they can to conversate. My tongue was all twisted, language all grammar errors. You just want to hear them talk more than you.
Its amazing that they’re learning the Bahasa Indonesia back at their school. Unlike us, we’re Bahasa Malaysia which is Melayu indirectly yet still about the same. They weren’t shy to show off their skills in their language. Somewhat it becomes a little funny session where they messed up yet still continue on without holding back. We had them play the most famous traditional game in Malaysia tradition, congkak [thank god our school got them]
It’s an arithmatic game which requires math skills and speed. Traditionally, its always played with the guli called marbles. At first it was hard for them to grasp the game but eventually, they were playing like pros after and hour non-stop of the game. It even got them addicted. Who wouldn’t? Our girls always come up to the library just to enjoy a simple game of congkak be it Malay, Chinese or Indian.
But every meeting must come to an end. We were summoned to the VIP room on our Australian friends’ wishes. And my gosh, it was totally so thoughtful of them to give us goodies. I got a keychain and a koala ^^ and a flag to go with it. JYJY Australian girls! Selamat kembali! Sila Datang Lagi!
